The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic Arizona is actively recruiting aTransfusion Medicine physician interested in developing a career at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. The successful candidate must have strong knowledge and skill sets in all aspects of Transfusion Medicine including immunohematology, management of transfusion products, apheresis, stem cell collection and processing, coagulation, and regulatory compliance to join our growing practice and to make contributions to our patient care, and educational and scholarly activities. The Transfusion Medicine service at Mayo Clinic in Arizona supports a 268-bed tertiary care hospital, which includes general adult medicine and multiple complex specialty practices, including hematology/oncology, solid organ and stem cell transplantation, neurology, and cardiology. The Transfusion Medicine section is currently staffed by four full-time, board-certified Transfusion Medicine specialists who provide blood product transfusion support, supervise apheresis procedures, manage cellular therapy activities and offer clinical consultations. Approximately 23,000 blood products are transfused and over 2250 apheresis procedures are performed annually. The Transfusion Medicine service supports stem cell processing, storage, and infusion for transplant as well as collection and processing of commercial and clinical trial immune effector cell products. The Mayo Clinic Arizona Phoenix campus is experiencing exciting growth and plans are in development to expand clinical practice space, including a new, state of the art laboratory, by 2023. Qualifications Additional qualifications License or certification The successful candidate will have an MD, DO or equivalent degree, be board-certified in clinical pathology and transfusion medicine, and be eligible for Arizona medical licensure and academic rank at Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine. Candidates with strong experience in cellular therapy and apheresis are desired. Applicants must have experience in all aspects of clinical transfusion medicine practice, including immunohematology, transfusion service, cellular therapy, apheresis, and laboratory and clinical coagulation. The candidate should have at least 3-5 years post training experience. Candidates will cover afterhours/weekend on-call activities for therapeutic apheresis, blood bank/transfusion, coagulation services and the clinical laboratory. The selected candidate will participate in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, engage in scholarly activities, work in a team-oriented manner, and undertake leadership responsibilities as needed.
