JOB TITLE: Ultrasound Technologist HSH LOCATION: Holy Spirit Hospital DEPARTMENT: Radiology WORK SCHEDULE: Rotation WORK TYPE: Flex
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing diagnostic examinations using sonography. Responsible for the delivery of high quality, cost effective imaging services. Performs imaging procedures in area of expertise. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range for their assigned area. Responsible for all regulatory requirements. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction. The Technologist maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease and new procedures as they evolve.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrates knowledge of technical/imaging components in the ultrasound department. Demonstrates flexibility to teach and ability to perform both independently and as a team member. Demonstrates knowledge/use of all supplies. Demonstrates knowledge of all procedures performed in Ultrasound. Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory and quality improvement policies. Demonstrates excellent and positive communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied health education programs (CAAHEP) is required. Must be certified by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or become certified within 2 years of employment Minimum of one year experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Visual acuity is required for viewing computer screens, setting equipment controls and operating various pieces of equipment. Normal patient care environment with occasional exposure to patients with possible infectious diseases. Moderate amount of stress involved in performance of normal responsibilities. Physical and emotional health must be sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
