Assistant or Associate Director of the Clinical Flow Cytometry Laboratory at Stanford Medicine
The Department of Pathology, Division of Clinical seeks an outstanding new faculty member to join our Clinical Flow Cytometry Laboratory, for appointment in the Clinician Educator Line (Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor), or in the Non-tenure Research Line (NTLR) (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). Academic rank and line will depend on the applicant's experience, interests, and qualifications.
The individual will share oversight responsibilities with the Directors of the Laboratory including clinical reporting, consultation, research and development, implementation and validation of novel tests, administrative duties, and teaching of residents and fellows. Responsibilities include reviewing and reporting clinical test results, consultation, methods development, safety, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and management of personnel and budget. Participation in weekly clinical meetings and technical expertise in flow cytometry is required. Depending on the experience and interests of the successful candidate, and the results of discussions with the Directors of the Laboratory and the Department Chair, the successful candidate may be appointed either as an Assistant or Associate Director of the Laboratory.
Requirements for the position include a PhD, or MD-PhD with demonstrated expertise in clinical flow cytometry testing and experience in novel test development. Licensure, or eligibility for such licensure, by the State of California and Board certification at the Diplomate level, or eligibility for such certification, by the American Board of Pathology is preferred.
The major criterion for appointment for faculty in the Non-tenure Line (Research) is evidence of high-level performance as a researcher for whose special knowledge a programmatic need exists. The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. CE faculty are encouraged to participate in research programs, as their clinical and educational responsibilities permit. This position requires the ability to interact effectively with faculty colleagues in the department, School of Medicine, University, and health care systems.
Successful candidates will join the faculty in the Department of Pathology, which currently includes a Nobel laureate, multiple members of the National Academies of Sciences and Medicine, and many other investigators with national and international distinctions. In addition to its outstanding research program, the Department of Pathology is responsible annually for over 3.8 million laboratory tests and 60,000 anatomic pathology specimens, and educates outstanding graduate students, residents, and fellows.
