Job Summary

****Phlebotomist II and Phlebotomist III qualifications will be considered at appropriate compensation.****Phlebotomist I will be trained to perform venipunctures and skin punctures on all age groups, from neonates through adults. Phlebotomist I will obtain blood specimens, process specimens for analysis, utilize the appropriate computer systems to register patients, facilitate billing, and perform overall specimen accessioning and processing. Phlebotomist I will have interpersonal communication ability to explain the blood drawing process and to show a comforting attitude toward patients.

Job Duties

Performs venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
Knowledge of adequate and correct collection requirements.
Performs accessioning procedures appropriately and accurately to ensure positive identification of the specimens Exhibits accuracy in specimen identification, labeling, accessioning, processing, and patient billing.
Demonstrates basic problem solving skills.
Recognizes and resolves basic discrepancies as appropriate.
Escalates more advances problems and discrepancies to appropriate Phlebotomist III, Analytical Specialist or Supervisor and Team Leader.
Provides for timely transport of the specimen to the appropriate specimen processing or analyzing location.
Accurately processes specimens for analysis according to prescribed procedure and provides for timely transport of the specimen to the appropriate specimen processing or analyzing location.
Evaluates specimen suitability and acceptability.
Resolves discrepancies as appropriate.
Initiates recollection process as appropriate.
Accurately processes specimens for analysis according to prescribed procedure.
Knows and abides by the Geisinger and related policies and procedures including compliance policies.
Provides phlebotomy coverage as trained and required to Geisinger Community Practice offices, skilled nursing facilities, or performs in-home phlebotomy for homebound patients.
Successful completion of initial and subsequent competency exams required.

Position Details

Phlebotomist II and Phlebotomist III qualifications will be considered at appropriate compensation.

This position is eligible for night shift differential as well as voluntary staffing incentives as schedules require.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)- (Required)

Experience

Minimum of 1 year-Laboratory (Preferred)

Certification(s) and License(s)

Valid Driver's License - Default Issuing Body; Member of National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Services (NAACLS) - National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Services (NAACLS)
