Description Summary: The Section Supervisor works under the supervision of the Laboratory Director or Manager; supervises assigned section. Responsible for the direct oversight of daily operations of assigned Section/s in the lab including staffing, procedures, policies, and quality improvement. Activities are performed both independently and after consultation and approval of the Manager, Director, and Medical Director/Pathologists.These activities are performed in order to provide the best possible diagnostic service to the physician and patient.Maintains CAP, CLIA, and JCAHO accrediting standards.Assures employee age specific competency through documented records and educational programs. ·Assures compliance with CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, AABB, infection control, safety and other regulatory standards, including privacy and security of health information (PHI).·Ensure adequate inventory for Laboratory Operations.Maintains appropriate levels of ALL supplies.·Collaborates with Laboratory Director/Supervisor/Team Leads to ensure that Laboratory Operations meet customer needs; focuses on customer satisfaction.·Schedules sufficient, cross-trained staff to work in all technical areas, as needed. Written schedule posted 3 days prior to the first working day of the schedule.·Responsible for the Referral Area to include:reporting, pending lists, invoicing and appropriate training of staff.·Assists with Implementation of new equipment and procedures in a timely manner.Assist with completion of all required validation studies.Ensures all equipment is maintained as scheduled.Ensures equipment maintenance documentation.·Manages the PT Survey process to include: assignments, submitting, and reviewing survey results.·Review daily/monthly work/QC, making note of corrective action and/or need for Pathologist interpretation as needed.·Assists the Laboratory Director to design/oversee appropriate Quality Assurance program, maintains Quality Control, and Functional Verification records according to regulatory standards.·Communicates with the Laboratory Director in a timely and concise manner concerning problems.·Responds to request from the Laboratory Director or Pathologist for special administrative or technical reports.·Serves as laboratory representation on designated hospital committees on behalf of the Laboratory Director if needed (i.e. Infection Control, Quarterly Management Committee, etc.).·Assists the Laboratory Director with regular departmental meetings, and conducts meetings in the absence of the Lab Director. Provides meeting minutes and sign in sheets.·Manages staffing from the interview and selection process by providing recommendation to the laboratory Director or Manager for hiring as well as for performance appraisals, discipline, and/or improvement plans.·Identifies trends, looking for opportunities for improvement.·Researches and evaluates new and improved technologies and procedures.·Responsible to help in all departments at more than one given time, to help those needing assistance.
