| The Eastern Colorado Veterans Health Care System, Imaging Service is currently recruiting for one (1) Medical Instrument Technician Diagnostic Ultrasound, at the Rocky Mountain VA Medical Center, in Aurora, Colorado. Incumbent shall be assigned to the 1A High Complexity Medical Center, RMRVAMC. The specialized Ultrasound Technician is required to perform ultrasound procedures to provide coverage in the 24/7 imaging service. The sonographer provides imaging service to our veterans on an Outpatient basis and emergent cases to support the Emergency Department and Inpatient units. The technician shall be available to work the various regular tours including afterhours, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations The Medical Instrument Technician (MIT), Diagnostic Ultrasound, independently performs standard general imaging and complex ultrasound examinations including non-standard and advance protocols (emergency and inpatients). The diagnostic MIT uses high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques for medical imaging purposes. The technician must be competent in the production, use, recognition, and analysis of ultrasound images and patterns used for patient diagnosis and treatment. The technician performs highly technical evaluation of the abdomen, pelvis, thorax, thyroids, breast, prostate, kidneys, aorta, scrotum, vascular studies and interventional procedures. Independently performs standard examinations through knowledge of both normal and abnormal human anatomy. The technician shall assist the Radiologist with procedures as needed. Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures, and rearranges patients scheduled to accommodate more urgent studies. Incumbent shall also perform functions to include screening, scheduling and coordinating patient appointments. Major duties include, but are not limited to: -Coordinates a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the application of non-ionizing high frequency ultrasonic waves to humans for diagnosis of disease. -Knows and understands the principles of ultrasound and the highly specialized equipment well enough to essentially approve the acceptability or reject ability of each scan. -Sets up, adjusts all equipment, and manually maneuvers the transducer to perform the exam and assist with procedures. -Receives and identifies patients, explains methods of procedures, assists movement of patients to and from wheelchairs, carts, and tables, positions the patient and performs examinations requested. -Develops and maintains patient prep procedures so that patients, nurses understand the proper preparations for ultrasound examinations to minimize delays of examinations. -Explains examinations to be performed to the patients so that understandings of the purpose of the study as well as any requirements of the patients are thoroughly understood. -Reviews related information found in the patient's electronic medical record to correlate lab and x-ray for the radiologist. -Provides/sends ultrasound images and related information to the radiologist for interpretation of the exams. -Assures that preventative maintenance and required QA are completed in a timely manner.
