The temporay Medical Instrument Technician (Gastroenterology (GI)) assist the practitioner in endoscopic procedures, such as esophagograstroduodenscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, endoscopic, retrograde cholangiopancreatophy (ERCP), and endoscopic Ultrasound. The technician ensures proper performance of equipment, set up equipment and reprocess endoscopic reusable medical equipment (RME). The duties will include of the Gastroenterology Technician includes, but are not limited to: Providing the Gastroenterology physicians with technical assistance during fiber optic endoscopy procedures. The position requires the application of practical knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and medical terminology. The incumbent is responsible for and required to assist with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), and Colonoscopy. The incumbent will also assist with advanced endoscopy procedures, such as, EUS, ERCP, EMR, PEG placement and other duties as necessary. Technician will ensure proper performance of equipment, set up equipment, and reprocess endoscopic reusable medical equipment (RME). The technician must have the ability to work with complex computerized equipment, calibrate, program and troubleshoot, and provide general maintenance of such equipment. This position requires the ability to work at a fast pace, to stand, walk, bend, and reach to assist with patient positioning. Must be able to lift and/or move over 50 pounds. Wearing a 20-pound lead apron, thyroid shield, mask, gown and eye shield during some procedures, ability to demonstrate customer service skills and interpersonal skills with patients and health-care professionals to ensure quality and continuity of care.
