Applies casts, splints, and special splinting and casting devices; maintains inventory of all necessary materials and supplies; assures smooth operation of cast room; meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinic area.
Prepares patients for application of casts; reinforces doctors' instructions regarding casts.
Prepares appropriate cast material for application of casts.
Applies, fits, adjusts, and removes simple and moderately complex plaster and synthetic casts and splints.
Perform skin care following cast removal.
Fabricates splints using aluminum and fiberglass.
Operates and monitors equipment, as required; performs cast blade changes based on equipment usage.
Redresses wounds using aseptic techniques.
Applies padding or moleskin to casts in need of modification.
Fits patients with soft goods, arm slings, wrist splints, etc.
Assists nursing and medical staff in the administration of patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatments, etc.; operates and monitors equipment, as required; provides emotional support to patients, as necessary.
Instruct patients, families, and caregivers or coworkers in the proper care and maintenance of casts, splints, and Orthopaedic appliances and precautions for wear.
Directs patients to examination rooms; assists in preparing patients for examinations as necessary; notifies physician of patient arrival.
Performs suture and staple removal per physician order.
