Your day.

As a Respiratory Therapist, you need to know how to:

• Access, manage and update patient medical records through Hospital Electronic Medical Record Information System.


• Read prescription and review patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment such as type and duration of therapy, and medication and dosages in order to assist the physician and flag the patientâ™s chart.


• Administer of all IV medication appropriately, including the application of age specific competencies; implementation of technique and proper patient communication.


• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of IV Pumps.


• Determine the most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications which may be needed that will be compatible with Physician's orders.


• Operate equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature.


• Monitor patient's physiological responses to therapy such as vital signs and arterial blood gases.


• Perform bronchopulmonary drainage and assist patient in performing breathing exercises.


• Perform pulmonary function tests.


• Assist physicians in bronchoscopy procedures.


• Observe equipment function and adjust equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy.


• Consult with Physician in event of adverse reactions.


• Maintain patient's chart that contains pertinent identification and therapy information.


• Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently. Order repairs when needed.


• Ensure that appropriate equipment and supplies are available in respiratory stock areas, and supply room to ensure that proper resources are available at all times.


• Clean and assemble equipment to ensure that equipment is available at all times.


• Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees and other health care personnel.


• Demonstrate competency to perform routine therapeutics and diagnostics on neonates, infants, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients such as: Patient assessment, oxygen administration, incentive spirometry, updraft aerosol, peak flows, IPPB, IPV, sputum inductions, suctioning, EKG, Holtor, and chest physiotherapy with knowledge and skill level commensurate of a RRT.


• Administer the drugs used in CardioPulmonary Services at a skill level commensurate of RRT.


• Respond to "Code Blue" immediately and establishes set procedures.

Your experience.

We hire people, not resumes. But we also expect excellence, which is why we require:

• Associate's degree from two-year College or technical school; or a combination of education, experience, and Registry through the NBRC (National Board of Respiratory Care), required; Bachelorâ™s degree, preferred.


• Current RRT, Montana license, required.


• Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association, required.


• Current ACLS and PALS certifications, preferred.
