This position serves the phlebotomy and core laboratory sections of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service and is a Lead Medical Technician (Phlebotomist) assigned to oversee the phlebotomy support for both inpatients/outpatients and the central processing area; will be required to rotate to all phlebotomy and central processing duty stations at the VA Maine HCS campus. Position requires working weekends and holidays on a fair and equitable rotating basis. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/22/2022. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time, in the past 52 weeks, must also meet time-in-grade requirements, by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5 grade level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. A Standard Form (SF)-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You must also qualify based on your experience, as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-5), in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Physical Requirements: Physical demands may involve minimal lifting, standing, foot travel, bending, or sitting. The incumbent must have the digital dexterity and adequate vision to perform safe venipuncture procedures. Lifting will not exceed a weight of 10 pounds. The incumbent must fully utilize all safety practice and equipment provided by the medical center, and in compliance with local and accrediting agency requirements. The environment is that of a typical clinical laboratory setting in a large, multidiscipline medical center. The incumbent is expected to be familiar with and perform all duties utilizing universal precautions established for the safety of healthcare workers. The incumbent may be subject to occupational risks of infectious agents, toxic and/or caustic chemicals, needle-sticks, cuts/abrasions, electrical shock, high decibel noise levels, etc. The incumbent is required to practice appropriate biohazardous waste disposal and infection control procedures. The incumbent is required to maintain a clean and safe work environment. The incumbent must utilize safe techniques and safety equipment mandated by CAP, OSHA, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the medical center. The incumbent is required to attend annual mandatory training courses related to safety, fire prevention, infectious disease prevention, and hazard notification. Prepares daily schedules of duty stations and monitors attendance of employees, revising schedules as needed to ensure maximum coverage of the Phlebotomy and Processing stations.
