Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Child Life Specialist - Emergency Department - Mineola.
In this role, the successful candidate, under direct supervision, provides emotional and social support to both patients and their families through conducting therapeutic, educational, and recreational programs for patients. Plans and provides age and developmentally appropriate experiences to ensure continued cognitive growth. Adds to the quality of patient care through observation, documentation and communication with other members of the healthcare team. Supervises work of volunteers and student interns.
Job Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned
Provides emotional support in a safe and supportive environment to families and patients in order to promote acceptance and coping with illness and hospitalization. Conducts educational and recreational programs for groups and individuals which may include reading, music, arts and crafts, games, movies, medical play, etc. to maximize use of physical and mental abilities.
Communicates with health care team members about information pertinent to patient care through assessing and documenting observations, determining and charting physcial, emotional and developmental status of child and their family.
As directed by the Child Life Supervisor, works towards minimizing the trauma and stress of hospitalization for patients through the promotion of hospital policy and advocacy of child patient rights. Adheres to the Child Life code of Ethics approved by the Child Life Council
In cooperation with medical andor nursing staff conducts medical play to provide patients and families with an understanding of medical procedures, prevent undo fear of procedures, to promote a sense of normalcy and to provide effective coping techniques.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Bachelor's Degree Child Life, Child Development or related field. Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) within one year of Hire. Strong communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, and analytical skills. Knowledge of medical terminology.
Preferred Qualifications: 1-2 years Child Life Specialist.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $44,160.22 - $64,621.58 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
