This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: RTs/RRTs appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38U.S.C. § 7403(f). Education: Individuals must have successfully completed a respiratory care program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) or its successor. Licensure: Persons appointed or reassigned to RRT positions in the GS-0601 series must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a full, current and unrestricted license from a State to practice as an RRT. RRT Credential: Persons appointed or reassigned to RRT positions in the GS-0601 series must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a valid, current, unrestricted credential of RRT from the National Board of Respiratory Care. Grade Determination: Registered Respiratory Therapist , GS-11: Experience, Licensure and Credential: Candidates Must possess: 1) One year of creditable experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level demonstrating the clinical competencies described at that level. AND, 2) Hold an active license and RRT credential. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the requirements above, candidates must demonstrate all the following KSAs: Ability to collaboratively consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals for complex respiratory care to develop care plans to provide favorable patient outcomes. Skill in evaluating the efficacies of therapeutic modalities. Skill in performing advanced airway and ventilation management. Physical Requirements: Must be able to Moderately Lift and Carry 15-44 lbs.; reach above shoulders; to use fingers, both eyes, have depth perception; distinguish different shades of color; ability to hear (hearing aids permitted). Ability to access all patient care areas as required. ["Major duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible for high quality performance of outpatient and inpatient respiratory care to include ventilator management, intubations and arterial blood draws. Responsible for following all protocols and procedures as established for the treatment, management, evaluation and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with the cardiopulmonary system. The services include, but are not limited to (the following activities performed with little or no direct supervision): * Therapeutic and diagnostic procedures with the use of medical gases and administration devices, humidification andaerosols. * Administration of medication to the cardiopulmonary system. * Ventilatory support, including maintenance and management of life support systems, and the patient/ventilator interface. * Bronchopulmonary drainage and breathing exercises. * Pulmonary rehabilitation. * CPAP/AutoPAP/BiPap Therapy. * Home Oxygen Evaluation. * Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). * Code Blue Response Team/Rapid Response Team (STAT Team). * Insertion and maintenance of airways/Out of Operating Room Airway Maintenance. * Arterial puncture. * Blood gas analysis (PFT Lab when assigned). * Pulmonary Function and exercise testing (when assigned). * Patient/family education. * Recognition of the need for medical intervention if patient safety is at risk. The RRT practices professionally, must be reliable, able to work independently and be self-motivated.
