FACULTY POSITION
The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is inviting applications for a clinician scientist with expertise in pediatric hematology. The ideal candidate will have an established research focus or aspirations to develop an extramurally funded research career in clinical/translational science. Applicants should be BC/BE in pediatric hematology-oncology. Clinical effort/research time, rank, salary and tenure status is commensurate with qualifications.
The Pediatric Hematology section is a component of the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology division and UAB Department of Pediatrics. The successful applicant will join the current 28-member division including six pediatric hematology focused faculty members, five CRNPs, two psychology clinical investigators, and six pediatric hematology-oncology fellows. The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Lifespan Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center provides clinical care for over 1500 adult and pediatric sickle cell patients. The Lifespan Sickle Cell Center has a robust portfolio of intramurally and extramurally funded research portfolio with established collaborations between bench and clinical research teams. The University of Alabama at Birmingham has a strong record of accomplishment of mentorship to allow the candidate to develop into a national leader in the field. The ideal candidate will participate in translational and clinical research related to sickle cell disease. Additional considerations will be given to faculty applicants pursuing a translational or clinical research career in thrombosis/hemostasis, or bone marrow failure syndrome. The Pediatric Research Office and Clinical Trials Office based at Children’s of Alabama and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CTSA) based at UAB support clinical research within the Department of Pediatrics.
Children’s of Alabama is a 332-bed tertiary care hospital with a full array of clinical subspecialty programs, closely associated with UAB. The pediatric hematology oncology program has a 24 bed dedicated inpatient unit adjacent to an eight bed pediatric BMT unit. The outpatient pediatric hematology clinic, hemophilia treatment center clinic, thrombosis clinic, sickle cell pain clinic, and bone marrow failure clinic are all located within the hospital complex. The UAB Department of Pediatrics and Children’s of Alabama leadership are working closely together to advance their shared strategic vision and common missions.
